The National Air and Space Academy was created in 1983 in Toulouse to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first human flight. It was created on André Turcat’s initiative with the high-patronage of the Ministers of Industry, Research, Defense, National Education and Transports.

The potential and advantages of spatial applications to territories

Presentation by Bernard PLANO, Mayor of Lannemezan, President of the Communauté de Communes of Lannemezan and the Baïses, Regional Councillor from Occitanie/Pyrénées-Méditerranée, President of the Inspace Institute.

The objective of this conference is to present the potential of space applications and the added value they bring to land management. With the development of digital society and hyper-information, the use of spatial data became essential to deal with societal and economic contemporary issues. The spatial sector represents an important leverage to support the French and European economic activity, to participate in the development of a strong and competitive industry in a complex environment, and to create high added value employment.

Presented by Michel BLANC, astronomer, HCERES scientific delegates for IRAP, Midi-Pyrénées Observatory, UPS-CNRS, Air and Space Academy member.

The advent of interplanetary probes  made the field exploration of the “small planetary systems within the big one” possible. We quickly progress regarding the understanding of their funtioning and how they formed; and we start establishing precise projects to look for signs of extraterrestrial life within Jupiter and Saturn’s “Ocean Moons” – Europe and Encelade.

Latest news on black holes

By Jean-Pierre LUMINET, research director for the CNRS, Astrophysics Laboratory of Marseille & Paris Observatory, Air and Space Academy member.

The recent detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO interferometer just proved the direct existence of black holes, which had, up to now, only been astronomically analyzed indirectly.  Well-known as one of the World specialists on that subject, Jean-Pierre Luminet will explore the latest discoveries on these fascinating objects and the future projects that will enable us to better track them down. Black holes manifest as a spectacular scale of astrophysical phenomenon.  Between relativity and quantum physics, they also play a keyrole in the development of new quantum gravitation theories.
